Your First Visit

Your First Visit

We are delighted that you have chosen Cranford Orthodontics for your orthodontic care! Patients are occasionally a little nervous about their first visit to the orthodontist. There is no need to be. This complimentary visit is a chance for us to get to know each other while gathering the information we need to provide you with excellent care.

During your first visit to our office, we ask that you bring your completed health history form, any appropriate insurance forms and cards, and any information provided to you by your family dentist. If you were unable to complete the requested information prior to this visit, we will gladly assist you in completing the forms at this time. Please inform our office staff if you would like us to mail or e-mail our health history form to you.

Once you arrive for your first appointment, you will be greeted by one of our professional team members, who will show you how to sign into our check-in computer. Our staff would then love to give you a tour of our office, which we have designed to feel more like a home than a dental office. Whether surfing the web on our free WiFi throughout the office, playing video games in the on-deck game room or watching movies in the kids’ theater room designed for our younger patients and siblings, we hope you see that while we are a very professional practice, we also like to have fun. After the tour, you will have a chance to brush your teeth in the brushing area, if desired.

Dr. Cranford will review your medical history, listen to any concerns you may have about your teeth, and perform a thorough clinical examination. Following the completed exam, Dr. Cranford will review his findings, present recommended treatment options, and answer your questions. Given the investment of both time and money by patients and their families, we feel it is important that Dr. Cranford personally review the treatment plan with you. For our younger patients, it is very possible that he will recommend placing your child on our periodic recall system until further eruption of permanent teeth. If treatment is indicated at this time, we will discuss the estimated treatment time and provide you with the corresponding fee.

Diagnostic records – consisting of models of the teeth, two digital radiographs and digital photos of the face and teeth – will need to be taken prior to the start of orthodontic treatment. If requested by Dr. Cranford, all or some of the diagnostic records may be taken prior to the initial clinical examination. Depending on the complexity of the findings from the patient’s clinical examination, Dr. Cranford may recommend that another appointment be scheduled to allow sufficient time to thoroughly evaluate the patient’s treatment options.
